Every new project is different. Therefore, we develop an individual programme of support in conjunction with the commissioning body. Here’s a few case studies showcasing some of our work with organisations at different places on their journey to spinning out.

CECS Lorraine Grothier

Stepping Out offered a very high level expert advice. They went beyond their call of duty. They spent so much time guiding mentoring and nurturing us. We are very happy with their continued communication and support.

Heather Riley, Norfolk Community Health & Care NHS Trust

Stepping Out found us the right people for our assignment, were quick to grasp the subject matter and completed on time. As such I’m happy to recommend them and would certainly use them again.

Simon Bell, Head of Marketing, CECS

Stepping Out has been a boon to our efforts. Your consultant has made himself both respected and integral to us as I had hoped. Your consultancy has been fascinating, yet very focused and has helped greatly in getting people organised. Your consultant has quite literally been worth his weight in gold and it is difficult to imagine how we would have been able to respond to all need without him.

Kevin Bond, CEO, NAViGO CIC

Very knowledgeable, innovative organisation. enthusiastic and supportive as well as putting us onto some good contacts to learn about their experiences in setting up social enterprises.

Dwayne Johnson, Director Adult Services, Halton Council

Having been inspired by some of Craig's writing in Third Sector, we got in touch with Stepping Out to see if they'd be interested in carrying out our strategic review. They delivered an incredibly insightful piece of work and did so within a very tight timeframe. The team they put together was first class and well tailored to our work and circumstances; sharp, good humoured and able to strike the right balance between constructive criticism and supportive challenge, I can recommend Stepping Out most highly to other organisations.

Rob Parkinson - Home-Start UK

Working in partnership to ensure Provide CIC makes the most of its independence

"Stepping Out have given me support in a range of ways.  Mentoring, bidding support, marketing, supporting staff and managers, organisational development.  A whole range of things that I've needed for my organisation and they have been able to get me the right people to get the job done."  John Niland, CEO

We've worked with John Niland since he first led Central Essex Community Services out of the NHS and into a standalone social enterprise in 2011.  Since then, CECS has rebranded to become Provide CIC and by 2014 it had more than doubled in size and won multiple awards for quality and innovation.

Stepping Out has offered a wide range of support to John and his team in that time including:

Mentoring - Craig Dearden-Phillips has acted as mentor to John since 2011.

Business Development - providing bid writers who have worked with the Provide team to write successful tenders for new services

Project Management - providing capacity to help resolve specific issues Provide were facing with commmissioners.

Senior Person Search - we helped find a Head of HR & OD, as well as the Chair of the organisation.

Organisational Restructure - evaluating the structure of the management team and advising on the setting up of a new, more fit for purpose set up.

Social Impact - developing processes for effectively measuring the difference that Provide makes through its services.

Since spinning out as a £36m enterprise in 2011, within 3 years Provide had grown to over £60m and in 2013 won the Social Enterprise category of the prestigious National Business Awards and Public Service Mutual of the Year at the presitigious Philip Baxendale Awards which celebrate excellence in employee ownership.
